A number of tests and exercises can offer insights into how we think as professionals. Keeping an active and open mind and learning to reflect upon our practice as teachers may help us to interact more fully with our students. You can download a thinking styles test as a 'Microsoft Word' version '97 or above file, as a *.pdf file in 'Acrobat Reader' or as an active worksheet in 'Microsoft Excel' version '97 or above. The M.I. - Multiple Intelligences Questionnaire, based on Howard Gardner's Seven Intelligences questionnaire allows us to calibrate the many different intelligence patterns we use daily. You can download the questionnaire as above in 3 formats: 'MsWord', MsExcel' or as an 'Acrobat Reader' *.pdf file. Finally, we exercise 3 main learning styles - visual, auditory and kinaesthetic. If 2/3 of students work outside their preferred learning style we can assume that we only have 1/3 of their attention. If our students can be taught using all 3 we may provide a more inclusive teaching practice. To find out which you favour, try VAK ('MsWord') test - for visual, auditory, kinaesthetic testing or the active VAK worksheet. You may also read the VAK *.pdf file. Good luck! |
